Job Opportunity
Church Administrator
We need a well-organised, discreet team player who loves making things happen.
We are the United Benefice of St Giles, Killamarsh and St Matthew, Renishaw, in the Diocese of Derby. Our aim is to be friendly and open places of worship which welcome members of our community of all ages, and to play an active role in the life of our villages. That shapes everything we do.
St Giles Parish Church is looking for a capable Church Administrator to keep the practical, financial and administrative life of our parish running smoothly. This is a pivotal role. You will work directly alongside the Rector, Church Wardens, PCC officers and help develop our team of volunteers.
From Sunday service administration, hall bookings and weekly notices to acting as PCC Secretary, grant applications, you will make sure everything runs well behind the scenes.
What we are looking for:
-
Someone who believes this work is worth doing, and who is kind, discreet and trustworthy.
-
A well-organised individual who can prioritise a varied and changing workload, meet deadlines and use initiative within limited hours.
-
Excellent written and spoken communication, with genuinely good spelling, grammar and attention to detail.
-
A welcoming manner with the congregation, volunteers, hall hirers and members of the public.
-
Proven administrative or office experience, ideally in a small organisation, charity, school or church, and confidence with Word, Excel and Outlook.
-
Experience of minute-taking, bookkeeping (Xero), Gift Aid, grant applications, venue bookings or producing publicity in Canva is welcome, though not essential.
-
Willingness to undertake safeguarding and other mandatory training and to work within Church of England safeguarding policy.
-
Sympathy with Christian values and with the aims, ethos and mission of the Church of England. There is a genuine occupational requirement for this. You need not be a churchgoer, but you should be glad to work in a Christian setting and to support what we are here to do.
The appointment is subject to a satisfactory basic DBS check, satisfactory references and evidence of the right to work in the UK. St Giles PCC is committed to safer recruitment and to being a welcoming and inclusive employer; we will make reasonable adjustments at any stage of the process.
Salary: £13.45 per hour — the real Living Wage (approx. £9,791.60 p.a.), reviewed each April + 5.6 weeks' holiday including bank holidays, pro rata
Hours: Part-time, 14 hours per week over 2 days (days and times agreed with the postholder before starting; occasional evening or weekend working by advance agreement)
Contract: Fixed term for two years, subject to a six-month probationary period.
Location: St Giles Church Hall, Sheepcote Road, Killamarsh, Sheffield, S21 1DU (office based, not remote)
